Welcome letter from Mr. Joseph Balaz, the president of Bohemian Benevolent and Literary Association is about current activities of BBLA and its sub – organizations, cultural events and news from Czech community in New York City
Dear friends, fellow trustees and visitors, welcome to our website. The month of September usually brings renewed life to New York City, as kids are back in school, business is taking off after summer hiatus (despite the recession) and galleries around town stage the season’s openings.
September is also wrought with dreaded traffic jams in Manhattan, courtesy of the annual United Nations Assembly which brings here virtually all heads of state from around the world. This is the time most New Yorkers wish the UN was stationed somewhere in Texas. This year many representatives of the Czech Republic were in attendance and I had the opportunity to have dinner with the Minister of foreign affairs, Mr. Schwartzenberg, as well as the new Ambassador to the UN, Mrs. Edita Hrda, who is replacing Mr. Palous near the end of the year.
I look forward to seeing you at our home, BBLA, for our exciting exhibits taking place in October.
Sincerely
Joseph Balaz
BBLA President
