Beseda Ball 2016: The Roaring Twenties in Prague

BBLA presents The Roaring Twenties in Prague, a new thematic concept featured at the 2016 Beseda Ball. We are proud to introduce our guests of honor H. E. Petr Gandalovic, Ambassador to the United States, H. E. Edita Hrda, Ambassador to the United Nations, and Hon. Martin Dvorak, Consul General.

Michael Arenella & His Dreamland Orchestra and Queen Esther & her Trio will take you through the journey of the Roaring twenties with authentic music. The whole evening will be spiced up by performances of Roddy Caravella and the Canarsie Wobblers. The historical stylings of Michael Arenella & His Dreamland Orchestra. Michael Arenella is not only a lively and dapper songster and musician, but also a composer and arranger who transcribes by hand, their entire repertoire from period recordings of the 1920s and 1930s. The delivery and approach are not only faithfully accurate and sincere, but also timeless. They have appeared at the New Haven Jazz Festival, Guggenheim Museum, Midsummers Night Swing, Near Year’s Eve Eve Salon, and has produced the Jazz Age Lawn Party on Governor’s Island which was called one of the 5 most memorable events of the year by the New York Times.


The lyrical songstress, Queen Esther & her Trio, will also be dazzling her 4-octave range throughout the evening. Queen Esther was the 2008 Grand Prize winner of the Jazzmobile Jazz Vocal Competition. She and her band have appeared throughout New York including sold out crowds at Minton’s Harlem, the Apollo Theater’s Apollo Music Café and the Jazz Age Lawn Party, just to name a few. Roddy Caravella, also know as Charleston Charlie is a dance historian and choreographer. Along with his dancers he has toured nationally and internationally with Swing Dance America, Swing on Ice in Hong Kong, Lincoln’s Centers Midsummers Night’s Swing and also television specials with Tony Bennett and Wynton Marsalis.
