$11,872 for the Czech-American Community of West, Texas

BBLA Press Room 19 July, 2013

We are happy to report that between BBLA donation and contributions from others we have collected a total sum of $11,872 as of today. We would like to thank all individuals who showed solidarity and donated to the BBLA West, Texas Relief Fund. The support came from New York but also from Cambridge in Massachusetts as well as Washington D.C.

We would also like to thank other non-profit organizations for their generous contribution to BBLA Fund:

  • the Bohemia Historical Society, and
  • the Society for the History of Czechoslovak Jews.

We thank you for helping us distribute our flyers, for your postings on Facebook, on your websites, and for announcing the relief fund at your events. Our outreach would not be possible without your help and without  tremendous assistance from the following institutions and businesses:

  • Consulate General of the Czech Republic in New York
  • Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Chicago
  • Consulate General of Slovakia in New York
  • Czech Center New York
  • Czech Honorary Consulate in jurisdiction of Consulate General of New York for Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire
  • Czech Wine Imports
  • Jan Hus Presbyterian Church
  • Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic in New York

As you know, part of the relief assistance donated by BBLA was used to cover four round-trip tickets to the Czech Republic for four children from West.  They spent a wonderful week exploring the land of their ancestors. Larry and Kathy Podsednik, who accompanied the children, wrote to BBLA:

“…We are extremely grateful and express our sincere appreciation for the efforts to secure donations and arrangements for our travel to the Czech Republic. The honor of such is expressed by the many family and friends who have never had the opportunity to travel back to their homeland…. This trip has provided hope and an opportunity for the revitalization of our youth, as they are our future to hold firm to our Czech heritage and roots. This trip would not have been possible without your financial support. Thank you so very much for the trip of a lifetime, a change for hope and courage as move forward in recovery. ...”

We are proud that our New York community joined in West’s recovery and connected with our compatriots.  All donations to the BBLA West, Texas Relief Fund will be handed over to the people of West through the Czech Embassy in Washington D.C.

All the best with your recovery, West!
