Joseph Balaz 01 February, 2018

The 100th anniversary of the foundation of Czechoslovakia at the very end of World War I is the ideal opportunity to remember also the prominent history of the Czech community in New York City. Our member organizations are preparing a series of events for the year 2018: concerts, theater productions, exhibitions, and lectures commemorating famous personalities with ties to New York, including Vaclav Havel, as well as highlighting the close links between the American and Czech nations in modern history.

We have started collaboration with Martin Nekola, an experienced historian focused on the Czech migration to the Americas. Martin has been doing extensive research in New York City over the past several years. We are pleased to feature a series of his articles on the theme "Czech New York." This project will culminate with an exhibit and a publication on the same topic this fall.

Enjoy the opening article and stay tuned!

Yours,

Joseph Balaz, President
