June Newsletter: From the President

Will they actually meet? Perhaps neither Kim nor Donald know the answer but I know for sure that around that time BBLA will meet with representatives of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs for our biannual meeting.

During these meetings we organize and approve maintenance work at the Bohemian National Hall (BNH) as well as discuss programs presented by our individual entities. The building is so busy that occasional programming snafus need to be dealt with: our goal is for all our groups to continually increase their mutual cooperation with each other. It is remarkable how well we work together and I would like to thank both the MFA representatives and the BBLA team of trustees for their hard work and dedicated commitment to our facility.

Among recent events at the BNH, I truly enjoyed the "Havel Conversations Live" with Wendy Luers in discussion with Lise Stone. Beautifully organized by the Vaclav Havel Library Foundation the event was very informative and inspirational. It is particularly stunning how Bill and Wendy Luers were able to use cultural diplomacy during the 1980s to promote freedom and human rights. They arrived in Prague in 1983 when Bill became the U.S. Ambassador to Czechoslovakia. After 1989, Wendy was the driving force behind the rise of the not-for-profit sector in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Come and play with us, we want to see you very soon!

Thank you for your patronage.

Yours,

Joseph Balaz, President
