Screening of Olga Malirova Spatova’s documentary Karel – a portrait of a Czech pop singer, Karel Gott (1939–2019), a phenomenal singer who gave his all to his fans was also a painter, a loving husband and father. A man who was spreading joy with his songs for 60 years in the Czech Republic, throughout Europe, and even worldwide.

In Karel, the singer traces the steps of his life, allows viewers to peek behind the scenes of concerts, and shows also his family life and privacy that he otherwise tries to lovingly and humbly protect.

We will celebrate Karel Gott, voted the Czech best male singer in the annual Cesky slavik national music award 42 times, most recently in 2017. Over the course of his career he released over 100 albums and 100 compilation albums. In 2009 Gott was awarded a Distinguished Merit Medal by the Czech state.

Free and open to the public. Seats are limited, on first-come first-served basis. RSVP through Eventbrite is required.

 This event is organized by the Association of Free Czechoslovak Sportsmen, Zlata Praha Productions and the Czech Center New York, with support of BBLA, Pilsner Urquell and Brouczech.
